Juicy Street Fighter IV Producer Interview

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 01:35 PM [Street Fighter]

In addition to revitalizing the Street Fighter franchise, SFIV producer Ono-san is also no slouch in the interview department.  He actually answers questions and his passion for the project infects every answer.

1up.com has a great interview with him where they talk Wii and get in-depth with some character discussions.

Our community vote on "which extra character should be in SFIV" gets a shoutout, and Ono-san offiically confirms that your choice (Cammy!) is indeed being put into the game as we speak.  Go Unity!

Where do I begin?  My son and I are doing great!  School starts here in a few weeks, and he will be beginning High School.

ForestGnome and I are doing awesome!  There are no words to explain how we are together, and I am so blessed!

Alex and I are moving up to Craig in the next week or so.  ForestGnome is going to have a full house, but he insists that it is what he wants - i wonder if he really knows what a handful i can be?  LOL

I may not be blogging again till after the first of september or so - but i am here, doing awesome and wishing all of you the joy and love that i have finally found.

Deer stalking as a method of control

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:32 PM GMT [General]

    Why control deer?

Two reason are given for controlling deer. Efficient crop protection and the welfare of deer. These are rely two part of the same equation. If there are too many deer on any piece of land, the crops suffer, and so does the health of the deer, due to lack of food.

All management objectives, sporting rights and provision of venison, must take into consideration the two primary objectives.

Recent counts give some idea of the numbers of deer , and it is thought that there are more deer in Great Britain than ever. When I first started deer stalking, 50 years ago, Roe deer were confined to a relatively small number of pockets, now they are in every county of the main land.

Before any culling can take place the stalker must get all the relative permissions from the various landowners, and a census must take place.

One of the main objects of control is to ensure that unacceptable levels of crop and forestry damage do not occur.

Control must be undertaken by highly trained riflemen, because deer deserve the utmost respect and a clean kill is imperative. We do not want wounded animals wandering about and dying in agony. The stalker must also get to know the lie of the land to enable him to see deer at the appropriate times. Usually just after the sun comes up or before it goes down. These are the two times when deer are moving to or from feeding areas

This is just a short introduction and I will expand into species and methods in later posts.

I will answer any sensible questions, frivolous ones I will ignore

This just in, Gail Kim is returning to the WWE!

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 02:31 PM EST [General]

"As reported earlier today, former TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim is jumping ship to World Wrestling Entertainment. Kim's departure from the company has taken most by surprise, reports ProWrestling.NET. People knew her contract was being renegotiated, but most assumed it was a lock that she would re-sign with TNA. There was no indication of her leaving the company at last week's Impact tapings, no did she say goodbye to the other wrestlers. One source said the problems between TNA & Kim stemmed from issues regarding her contract. Kim "wanted guarantees TNA was not willing to give" and there were some issues over a separate contract she has with a booking agent who puts her personal appearances together, which created some conflict with TNA. It should also be noted that WWE recently changed its trademark on Gail Kim from inactive to an active status, which should confirm that she's heading back to the company."

Looks like WWE made her an offer she couldn't refuse! Cha-ching! Great news for womens wrestling.

    Cute fact #4

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 11:28 AM PST [General]

So since my master scheme didnt work of winning him back with singing a song to him infront of our ENTIRE elmentary shcool... I would spend the next 7 months doing anything to subtly get his attention! (i was a girl on a mission folks) Alan and I both sing. So thats the one HUGE thing we had in common our love for music. Our 6th grade choir trip was coming up, this was my chance!!! All i had to do was make sure we sat next to each other on the bus! Which surprisingly was easier than I thought it just kinda happend. There we are sitting right across from each other... my heart is beating sooo fast, I had this goofy smile PLASTERD on my face! hhahah he leans over and says.. I want u to listen to this song... Ya i basically melted right out of my freakn seat! LOL The song playing was "Nobody" by R-Kelly! Yes in the 6th grade... trying to get fresh!! LOL He was quit the Rico Swave! haha Our feet were touching in the isle... and we were only seperted by about 12 inches of isle space... AHHHHH I was in heaven :-). Little did I know that would be the last time I would talk to him for 3yrs!!!!

But again Fate brought us back together in last place I ever thought i would see him 3 yrs later!!!!!! Stay tuned to find out where....

Girl Talk with Sis..."Should you break up with the BF because of his parents?"

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 11:24 AM PST [Girl Talk With SIS]

Today's Topic: Should you break up with the BF because of his parents?

Yesterday I got an email from "Anonymous" in Cypress and she was stuck in bind.  She asked me:

"I've been with my boyfriend for 11 months and can't seem to get along with his parents.  They just don't like me?  It's like they think that their son should be with someone else.  Like I'm not good enough for him.  Should I break up with him because of his parents?"

Eeeeeeek, that is a tough one.  Here's the deal, if you are considering ending your relationship with your man because his mom gives you dirty looks, that's lame!  In the long run you're not dating his parents, you're dating him and the love you have for each other should be strong enough to surpass the negative energy you may be feeling from his folks.  I'm not saying you should start making T-Shirts that say "Team Girlfriend" and "Team Parents", but try to look at the situation in a mature manner and really think about how much you love him.  I would say talk to your significant other about how you feel and take baby steps in trying to build a great relationship with his mom and dad.  I'm sure once they realize you ain't goin' anywhere, they will be more open minded to letting you into the family.

    xoxo,

    Sisanie

    Who Are These People?

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 12:21 PM MST [General]

Who are these people, these fairies and elves and heaven knows what, in dreams anyway?  Well, several possibilities come to mind, and they might all be true at different times, or even (knowing the dreamworld's skill at multitasking) simultaneously.

    1)  The common misconception:  Dreams of fairies are nothing more than the result of reading about fairies or seeing pictures of them, or some other day influence sleeping into the random firings of the night brain.  This is the only thing that I will say is not true, and yet it has a grain of truth in it.  The dreaming mind uses whatever we give it, as an illiterate mute might try to communicate with us by creating collages out of whatever magazines we leave about.  Thus, when one wants to dream of fairies, it does help to contemplate them and their imagery before going to bed.  Yet to do so spreads out a welcome mat ; it doesn't create the result, simply invites it in.

    2)  The commonest (primarily Freudian) psychological explanation:  Anyone who shows up in a dream is an aspect of the dreamer.  Sometimes this is true, and sometimes it ain't necessarily so.  Still, it happens often enough that one should always consider that possibility, and learn what one can from it.  Even those entities which might have a separate identity might only gain access when who they are and/or what they represent resonates with the dreaming mind which they visit.  Even as the friends that I choose in waking life tell a lot about me, as do the characters that I make up for stories, so in dreams the people there, whether generated by me or invited in, teach me something about myself.  So even if I don't agree 100% with the "anyone" part of the theory, I pay attention to that aspect first.  And even if someone only believes this much about dreams, it can make a huge positive difference in one's life to pay attention to their dreams on this basis alone.

    3)  The Jungian refinement of a psychological explanation:  Folkloric beings, such as fairies, and especially subcategories such as figures suggestive of the Great Mother, the Wise Old Man, the Trickster, etc., are archetypal figures found in all cultures, arising from the Collective Unconsciousness.  These can not only tell the dreamer about herself, but also about her role and mission in the larger world, including (but not limited to) possibly conveying through her messages to her community, and/or showing how the psychology of her society affects her.  Better and better.  Yet I would also point out that living, breathing individuals, or those who once lived and breathed, can become archetypes in the minds of those who look on them, such as Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, or your favorite Trickster Rock-Star.  As in waking life, why not in dreams?

    4)  The parapsychological explanation:  As the research of Dr. Robert Van de Castle and other psychologists have indicated, we are far more open to telepathy while dreaming than while awake.  Therefore, just as our minds can overlap in dreams with human beings, so also, if non-human sentients exist, we can "mutual dream" with them as well.  (And some of us do indeed believe that this takes place.)  It might indeed provide the easiest way for human beings and fairies to communicate, when in waking life we live in such a different paradigm from each other.

    5.  The ancient mysticism/modern quantum physics explanation:  We are all energy fields generating bodies--not human beings having a spiritual experience so much as spirits having a human experience.  Some either attain a state or begin in a state of pure energy.  Okay, some people might find that wonderful and peaceful, to bop around the universe as pure energy, while others might get bored.  What might these others do, then?  Generate bodies to suit themselves, perhaps, and become fairies.  Maybe even generate a whole world of their own, different from the Dominant Paradigm--worlds that the Arabs call the Alam al Mythal, the imaginal realms, perhaps akin to the Celtic Faerie or the Yaqui "climates" within the Sea Ania.

Being pure energy, they might exist in a dreamworld where they shapeshift as they wish.  In this state they could easily visit the dreams of others, dressing in whatever forms they find within the minds they visit, like costuming up in attire appropriate for someone else's customs.  Imagine my shock, when dreaming of a crusty old hobbit, who turns to me, after confirming that I was, in fact, dreaming, and says, "I both am and am not Bilbo Baggins.  This is the closest equivalent that you can come to comprehending who I am." and then giving me lessons on modifying my form in dreams and exploring dream realities.

    6.  The controversial M-theory physics explanation:  Realities exist, called by physicists "branes" in infinite stacks of infinities, within a large number of dimensions inexperienceable to the human mind (I forget the exact number worked out, but it was by no means small.)  Beings might well cross over wherever these layers bump into each other (some say that such bumping would be catastrophic, others say that these bumps happen all the time and empower the universes like the separating and meeting of membranes in a bellows. ) Or we might mutually-dream across from reality to reality.  My crusty little guide (not the same guide who threw the party illustrated in the site picture) gave me an intriguing alternative explanation as to the nature of Faerie:

In this dream, he showed me branes (or rather, models of branes in a form that I could comprehend) stacked like layers of filo dough, crinkly, touching each other lightly in many places.  He took one, rolled it up, and shoved it through all the others, perpendicularly.  I cried out in shock, fearing what damage this might cause, but instead life especially flourished wherever this perpendicular universe touched, and life flowed up and down it and existed within it, and all manner of exchanges became possible.  Then I remembered one of Bill Mollison's principles of Permaculture--that life energy abounds most in liminal places, where different environments meet, like coastal waters, edges of forests, transitional microclimates on mountain slopes, etc.  Could this be Faerie--this brane perpendicular to all the rest?  Could this be Yggsdrakil, Jacob's ladder, the Shaman Tree, the Tree of Life, this powerful, universal archetype by which medicine people in a staggering array of cultures and religions access heavens, hells, and worlds beyond description?

    7.  The occultist explanation:  We generate beings by our will and/or our imagination.  I'm not agreeing, nor denying, just putting it out there as one of the theories put forth.  If so, dreams might be the most potent time to do the generating, whether consciously or unconsciously.

    8.  The Australian explanation:  It's all dreams!  In which case, the fairies you dream about would be real no matter which way you looked at it, no more, no less than yourself.

This sort of parallels another dream I had, where Bilbo walked with me through Hogsmeade (!) to a mercurial lake where different villages in different worlds clustered around the edge.  As ripples went through the lake, the natures of each village shifted: legend into dream into fiction into dream, into art, etc.  When I asked, "And where does the real world fit into all of this?"  he irritably replied, "it's all real!"  In another part of the dream he said that the lake had no bottom.  I wonder if it also had no top?  It might have represented a cross-section view of the perpendicular universe in the other dream.  (A lot else happened in the dream, too, but I needn't go into detail here about getting tipsy while helping elves press cider, nor finding myself in battle and going about everything the wrong way, etc.)

Anyway, comments, questions, alternate viewpoints, would all be helpful.  And if you stumble across this brand, spankin'-new group and like it, do please spead the word!

    India & China

Thursday, August 21, 2008, 07:19 PM GMT [Culture]

(Comments on On Peter Foster's post Can India ever catch up with China? )

Londoner432, as a respectable soldier in War II, mentioned about those war days in India.

While many put china and India as a pair for comparison, in War II, China's army, equipped with USA/UK weapons, helped UK/US army to protect India from Japan's attack, and wiped Japanese army out of Southeast-Asia.

Most soldiers in the frontline of battlefields should know this history, I guess.

A very funny thing is, Chinese culture was largely a branck of India's Buddahism culture. In ancient time, Chinese thought Indians were their Gods (Buddha) living in their western. Indians were to China in ancient time as Americans to China today.
